WHAT ROLE DOES NGO PLAY IN THE SOCIETY

Society is a collection of communities and organizations that enables the ease of functioning of human civilization. With emerging days, the factor of independence has crawled deeper into human beings. But does not make them an island. Every human needs another being’s support to existing. Thus, communities and societies are formed.

Equality is not prevalent in any society. This puts an unfair advantage on some while an unfair disadvantage on many. To make things equal, there often arises the need for helping out one another in the process of growing the community. Thus, to navigate the process and leverage it productively, NGOs are present.

NGOs ensure that the following traits are prevalent in society:

  • Depth and resilience: An NGO helps in setting depth and resilience in society. They make it easy for all to transform during hours of need. For instance, during hours of natural disaster or calamity, NGOs are at the forefront of helping the needy by providing essential services.

  • Expression of citizen’s voice: Not all citizens are aware of their rights and power. This makes them easy prey. To avoid such a situation, NGOs ensure that all human concerns are expressed in the right manner to the right authority.

  • Empowering citizens: By providing them knowledge and in-depth understanding regarding their rights as a citizen, NGOs often offer a helping hand to the needy. They make them aware of their needs and their potentials to live an empowered life as a human.

It has been stated that there are more than two million NGOs who are registered under the Societies/Trusts Act of India. This count is inclusive of all the youth clubs, Mahila mandals, old age homes, etc. There have also been direct government initiatives like DRDA and District Health Society to have been regarded under it. This vast community of helpers does possess an uncanny ability to aid the citizens of the society.
